By Tanner Dedmon - July 30, 2019 05:19 pm EDT Share 0 Comments 0 In a surprise announcement from Obsidian Entertainment, Private Division, and Nintendo, The Outer Worlds has been confirmed for a release on the Nintendo Switch. The space-faring RPG from the creators of the original Fallout games was previously scheduled to a release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC devices ahead of Tuesday’s reveal. The video above serves as Obsidian’s announcement alongside an overview of the game’s story. The announcement for the game’s Switch release was an unexpected one, though with the game already planned for a release on each platform besides that, it was the last possible place that it could be released. Obsidian’s video got straight to the point with the announcement before previewing the game for any Switch owner who didn’t have a reason to pay attention to it for now. You’ll play as a character of your own design … [Read more...] about The Outer Worlds Is Coming to the Nintendo Switch

New Video Games Out This Week: Wattam, Untitled Goose Game, and More
By Tyler Fischer - December 15, 2019 09:59 am EST Share 0 Comments 0 It's almost the end of 2019, which means game releases are really starting to slow down. In fact, this week only has three notable releases, including the long-awaited return of a beloved creator and a game where you harass nice folk as a goose. Shadow of War developer discusses the game’s controversial loot boxes
Last month, big budget Lord of the Rings game Middle-earth: Shadow of War revealed it would supplement its full-fat price-tag by including loot boxes purchasable with real-world money. It was an announcement which, predictably, did not go down well with fans. The single-player action adventure has an in-game store, called the Market, that sells orcs and other items for use in the game's Nemesis System. You can also buy loot chests, war chests, XP boosts and bundles. The loot chests contain gear (weapons and armour) of varying rarity. They can also contain XP boosts which, as you'd expect, help level up playable character Talion faster. War chests provide orc followers of varying rarity which you can use to help create a strong army. They can also contain training orders to level up and customise orc followers.Publisher Warner Bros. accompanied the announcement with reassurances - that anything gained from the loot boxes could also be earned by simply playing the game, that the … [Read more...] about Shadow of War developer discusses the game’s controversial loot boxes

The Witcher comics ranked from worst to best
In one of the collections of Witcher comics there's an interview with Borys Pugacz-Muraszkiewicz, a lead writer at CD Projekt Red, where he talks about writing their bible for the first Witcher game. When they were setting down the basics of tone and so on they decided to give Geralt the abrupt speech patterns of a comic book character. Borys doesn't name names, but game Geralt has always made me think of Wolverine. If you've read the books you'll know Geralt there can be quite garrulous, while in the games he's allergic to prepositions. In the comics he speaks with the same terse style as the games, and it feels like a homecoming. The stories in videogame comics are usually irrelevant filler—with exceptions like Team Fortress 2, of course. But because the Witcher games embrace sidequests, imbuing the workaday monster-hunting Geralt does with as much significance as the main plot, spin-offs like these don't feel trivial. Think of these as sidequests no less fun or worthwhile than … [Read more...] about The Witcher comics ranked from worst to best
