Intel has ended its Performance Tuning Protection Plan (PTPP) , an extended warranty program that would ensure you always had a backup chip close-by if, for some reason, you overclocked your initial processor to tatters. The PTPP program essentially offered users a one-time out if they happened to kill their processor during overclocking for a relatively small fee. Tweaked the multiplier and can no longer boot your machine? Intel will send you a new chip. But only once. The PTPP program has so fallen to the wayside that we must admit we didn't actually remember existed. I put that down to the fact most modern processors, for a good while now, have been so barely overclockable that the dangers of overclocking have been minimised over the years. A modern chip is already running close to the ragged edge, by design. Intel says that it's ending the program as it is "seeing lower demand for the Performance Tuning Protection Plans" (via Tom's Hardware ). Plans had ranged in … [Read more...] about Intel ends overclocking warranty plan we all forgot it offered

Destiny developer Bungie has big plans for the future. The company has re-confirmed its plans to launch its mysterious new IP by 2025, while the company is expanding the physical size of its Bellevue, Washington office and opening a brand-new publishing outfit in Amsterdam. Additionally, Bungie has teased plans to extend the Destiny franchise beyond games, while there has been a leadership shakeup on the development team as well. New IP Bungie said it plans to launch a new IP before 2025, but nothing is known about this game. In 2018, the Chinese internet company invested $100 million into Bungie to help the company make non-Destiny games, so this new IP might be one of them. Though Intel is showing up late to the party, it plans to crash it by delivering faster storage performance through the PCIe 4.0 bus. In no uncertain terms, Intel says its "11th Gen Core desktop platform delivers up to 11 percent better PCIe Gen 4 storage performance vs the AMD Ryzen 9 5000 platform." As supposed proof of this claim, Intel benchmarked a 1TB Samsung 980 Pro SSD on two high-end systems sporting flagship CPUs from each company. On the Intel side, the testbed consisted of a Core i9 11900K CPU mated to an Asus Z590 ROG Maximus XIII Hero motherboard, along with 32GB of DDR4-3200 RAM and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card. And for the AMD testbed, Intel equipped it with a Ryzen 9 5950X CPU … [Read more...] about Intel claims your PCIe 4.0 SSD will run faster on Rocket Lake than an AMD system
