While Bravely Second: End Layer continued the story of the original game, Bravely Default 2 is now hoping to continue the story of the franchise some six years later. The third (and slightly confusingly named) installment of the series will launch on Nintendo Switch this Friday, February 26, and producer Masashi Takahashi hopes to see it establish Bravely as a full-fat series home to independent but thematically connected stories and games. He and character designer Naoki Ikushima have also worked to marry the best parts of Bravely with lessons learned from Octopath Traveler, the last Switch JRPG that the two worked on, and player feedback has shaped that process at nearly every level. A return to form "While I am really proud that so many people have played the games and like the series, at the same time I also feel with each game we had a lot of points to reflect on," Takahashi says of the series thus far. "With Bravely Second: End Layer, we received a lot of comments mainly … [Read more...] about The making of Bravely Default 2, a return to form built on demos, mistakes, and Octopath Traveler

Evercade is a promising product with teething issues
Update: we've now completed a full Evercade review if you'd like an in-depth report of the game after testing it out for longer. And if you'd like to check out similar retro throwbacks to gaming's classic years, be sure to take a look at our guide to the best retro consoles . While the recent wave of mini consoles has been a good thing overall, it’s easy to understand why they don’t scratch the itch for everyone. Everything announced in Capcom’s Resident Evil showcase
Tonight's Resident Evil showcase was heavy on news about the upcoming Resident Evil Village, which was announced for release on 7th May 2021. As well as PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, Village will also be released on the same date for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Capcom confirmed (which had been uncertain until now ). Excitingly, PS5 owners can play a non-combat demo set in Village's castle area from tonight. This slice stars a new character named The Maiden trying to escape the area, and is designed to show off the game's visuals, atmosphere and environmental detail. Less excitingly if you don't have a PS5, tonight's demo is PS5 exclusive and will never release elsewhere. A different demo will be available later this spring for all platforms. Village itself looks impressive - and for anyone who loved Resident Evil 4 back in the day, full of throwbacks to that beloved entry. The action starts in a European village but then moves to the castle area we saw today. Each … [Read more...] about Everything announced in Capcom’s Resident Evil showcase
What I want from Crusader Kings 3 DLC
My perception of time has gone haywire over the last year, so I couldn't tell you if Crusader Kings 3 launched recently or a million years ago, but it does feel like it's been the right length of time for some DLC to make an appearance. There's even a placeholder Steam page for it. Paradox has been keeping schtum about what's hidden away inside 'Expansion Pass 1', but that's about to change. The developer will spill the beans on the first expansion and accompanying free update on March 13, during its Paradox Insider event. There are fewer obvious places for it to expand compared to Crusader Kings 2—it's a big lad—but that hasn't stopped me putting together an expansion list of demands wish list. So while we wait for the announcement, here's what I want from Crusader Kings 3 DLC. Knight life Knights are one of CK3's big new additions, beefing up warfare (and its stakes) with hard-as-nails warriors who also hang out at court. They're great, marrying two normally disparate … [Read more...] about What I want from Crusader Kings 3 DLC
