Trouble getting hold of a graphics card right now? There's something of a perfect storm for GPU shortages today as demand surges, supply wanes, and cryptocurrency mining makes a comeback. Nvidia's partial answer has been to implement a Ethereum mining limiter on its latest GPU, the RTX 3060 12GB , and it could well be planning more of the same for future launches, including the RTX 3080 Ti. The RTX 3080 Ti is a card always just over the horizon for Nvidia, or at least that's what the rumours seem to suggest. There's no official word on this card's existence or release date, but you'd expect it will show up in one form or another before the year's out. It will have 12G 19Gbps VRAM and an ETH mining nerf too. March 4, 2021 See more Originally expected with 10,496 CUDA Cores and 20GB of GDDR6X memory, a well-known leaker with a decent track record for Nvidia releases supposes the RTX 3080 Ti has shape changed once more. Kopite7kimi now suggests the card will … [Read more...] about Ethereum mining limiters could come as standard on future Nvidia GeForce GPUs

Skull and Bones: Ubisoft’s pirate MMO has a new vision, but still no release date
Skull and Bones, Ubisoft's piratical MMO, is turning out to be quite the tease. It was announced in 2017, we got to play it in 2018, but here we are in 2021 and there's no sign of a release date. Not even on the horizon. Not even with a nautical telescope. Recently we did get an update from Ubisoft Singapore, the studio working on the game, to let us know it was still a thing, but had seen significant changes to implement a "new vision" for the project. We're yet to see any trailers or gameplay that show us exactly what that new vision is, but at least it's proof of life. The last time we saw Skull and Bones it borrowed heavily from the naval battles of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and added the chaos and excitement that comes from teaming up with friends online. It's hard to imagine how much has changed since then - you have to guess that the game will at least be getting a visual upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X - or what new features will have been added to reflect the … [Read more...] about Skull and Bones: Ubisoft’s pirate MMO has a new vision, but still no release date

AMD’s graphics card market share has dropped by a third in one year
Spare a thought for AMD. It's finally got itself a genuinely competitive new graphics card architecture, released to great critical acclaim, and yet due to circumstances largely beyond its control, it's almost completely unable to sell them. An unholy mix of pandemic supply chain issues and TSMC oversubscription has meant that in the last 12 months AMD's share of the graphics card market has dwindled to just 18 percent. Cut the cord...
