Horizon Zero Dawn transforms into a pixelated adventure in 72p

Horizon Zero Dawn can be turned into a pixelated adventure game by turning down the resolution to 72p.Yes, you read that correctly. On the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn, you can manually adjust the display resolution for the game all the way to an incredibly low 72p (the lowest resolution the game offers, in fact). Just below, you can see a Twitter user showing off what Guerilla's game looks like at the 72p resolution setting, and it looks oddly charming.Did you know the PC Version of Horizon: Zero Dawn lets you toggle the resolution to 72p? (256x144) pic.twitter.com/3nYccHPQDZFebruary 6, 2021We'd actually love to play this version of Horizon Zero Dawn. The way the game maintains a relatively smooth flow even while the resolution is turned down to 72p is endearing, and it actually looks like it'd be a lot of fun to play. It'll be interesting to see whether this option is ever replicated for Horizon Forbidden West, should the sequel actually ever make it to PC. Right now, the hotly … [Read more...] about Horizon Zero Dawn transforms into a pixelated adventure in 72p

Behold, Horizon Zero Dawn Running At 72p

In the course of testing the notorious GeForce GT 710 ultra-budget graphics card, YouTuber Kryzzp of zWORMz Gaming has shown just how low-spec Horizon Zero Dawn can be pushed on its PC port . A section of the video shows the game running at an eye-straining 128x72--which can be selected from the game's visual settings without mods or any extra tinkering. While Kryzzp's channel often showcases high-end graphics cards pushing games to their limit, a few videos do the exact opposite. The Horizon Zero Dawn video is framed as a test for the GT 710, with the start of the video showing the low-end card outputting just 3fps when the game is played on Ultra settings at 1080p. The test goes through 720p, 360p, 144p, then 72p, with the card only briefly managing 30fps at the ultra-low resolution. While the YouTuber refers to it as " Game Boy Advance edition," an article by The Verge points out that even the 20-year-old handheld console had a higher screen resolution of 240x160. … [Read more...] about Behold, Horizon Zero Dawn Running At 72p

Destiny’s Christmas event, The Dawning, has started. Here’s what Space Santa’s brought (spoiler: a lot)

Get ready to flip a Strange Coin down to that scruffy boy in the street and ask for a turkey, because Destiny ’s big Christmas event, The Dawning, is on the way. Yeah, I know, we’ve just got Hallowe’en/Festival of the Lost out of the way, right? Those rotten pumpkins still need cleaning up. But anyway! The Dawning starts on December 13, to be exact, and will run to January 3. And it sounds like it’s going to be a mighty big deal. In fact it sounds like it’s going to be the most generous, eclectic, and fully-featured seasonal event Destiny has yet had. This is going to be much more than a gift-collecting chain quest (though there is a festive variant of the Festival of the Lost’s trick-or-treat shenanigans to be had). To sum up, The Dawning is this, though I’ll go into a lot more detail below: • Destiny’s 2016 Christmas event, running from December 13 to January 3. During The Dawning, you’ll get new quests (with brand new Exotic weapons to be had), the return of the … [Read more...] about Destiny’s Christmas event, The Dawning, has started. Someone should make a game about: swooping season

Australians talk up their dangerous wildlife something fierce. And sure, Oz is home to some of the deadliest creatures on the planet. But let me tell you a secret. Deadly they may be, but most Australian animals aren't particularly aggressive. The death adder is among the most venomous snakes out there. But unless you actually tread on one, they prefer to keep their distance. Funnel-web and redback spiders can deliver painful and potentially lethal bites. But they're not going to actively seek you out or hunt you down. If you look where you're walking, you're usually pretty safe, even in the outback. I say that most Aussie animals aren't aggressive. But I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the magpies. Australian magpies look like the ones in Europe and America. But they're a whole different breed. They're bigger than our magpies. Wikipedia describes them as 'robust', though honestly they're closer to 'brutish'. And they have beady little golden eyes that seethe with hatred. You'll … [Read more...] about Someone should make a game about: swooping season

GamesMaster: The Inside Story

Every Sunday we present an article from our archives, either for you to discover for the first time or to get reacquainted with. This week, to mark the departure of the amazing Ellie Gibson from the Eurogamer editorial team, we give you her inside look at 90s favourite GamesMaster, an article typical of her incredible writing talents. We're going to miss you Ellie! Craig Munro's 10-year-old heart was pounding in his chest. The unfamiliar controller trembled in his sweaty grip. He stared wide-eyed at the screen, too nervous to blink, too terrified to breathe. Beside him his elder sister, Kirsty, hammered the buttons on her own controller like a rabid pianist. Craig watched the numbers tick up: 2, 3, 4...He thought of the letter that had brought him to this moment. The one he had written several months ago to the producers of GamesMaster, his favourite television show. "I drew an illustration of some guy from Nintendo World Cup on the NES scoring a goal," the adult Craig remembers today. … [Read more...] about GamesMaster: The Inside Story
