Bandai Namco has finally dropped a release date for action RPG Scarlet Nexus, arriving on Steam June 24th, 2021. First announced a while back, Scarlet Nexus didn't have that much detail around it until recently, and it's actually looking pretty intriguing. Players will experience the story from one of two perspectives, psychics Yuito or Kasane, who are fighting terrifying psychic monsters known as Others who "descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains." The design of the monsters is weird and compelling, as the Others' forms are amalgamations of different objects and human parts. One's got a valve wheel for a face and a tree head. Another's got a big arm made out of smaller arms. The combo-driven combat is about psychokinetic powers: Lifting, breaking, and throwing pieces of the environment around to crush monsters. Listen up, folks: The new World of Warcraft pet is adorable. It's Daisy, the sloth, which is very small and cute and slow and in order to get around has to ride on your back. But it's a pet that you can only get through giving to charity. Indeed, it's a pet we—by which I mean people playing World of Warcraft—can only get if we collectively donate $1 million USD to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. All the donations will go to the MSF COVID-19 Crisis Fund, supporting MSF's global response to the pandemic. At $500,000, Blizzard will give out Bananas, a Monkey, which is fine. It's cute, even, if you like monkeys. (For the record, I am pretty sure Bananas is an ape, not a monkey.) UPDATE 9pm: Epic has U-turned on its sale of the Gunner pet dog, a near-identical version of an item previously included in a Battle Pass. In the past hour, the pet has been removed from Fortnite's in-game store. In a statement issued this evening to Eurogamer Epic admitted it "should not have released" the dog and was sorry for having done so. Many fans felt it crossed a red line around the reissuing of exclusive Battle Pass content, which Epic promises never to sell separately. Anyone who bought the pet today will see it removed from their Lockers, and its price refunded into their game wallets, with an extra 200 V-Bucks on top. It's pleasing to see Epic pause to rethink its decision to sell this item. The unprecedented step of pulling the pet from sale and scrubbing it from Lockers suggests a push back on the idea of selling Battle Pass content separately - and that lessons have been learned. Well, players damn well better be able to pet that dog, especially since the rise of game-shaming Twitter account Can You Pet The Dog? which catalogues the games in which you can and cannot pet the dog. Over the past few years, many developers have patched their games to appease Twitter's harsh judgment, but Bethesda has remained unmoved. So a modder has taken the matter into their own hands, as modders have been doing with Bethesda games since the dawn of time. Behold: Pet The Dogs - Animations is a mod that allows you to stoop down and give your favorite mutt a good scratch behind the ears. There are three different animations depending on the friendly dog's position (keyword: friendly—you probably shouldn't try this on angry wolves). A Skyrim modder has created a series of pet-the-dog animations to allow players to interact with any furry friends they encounter. The mod, which was created by Jayserpa (via PCGN ) has three pet settings including one for when the dog you’re approaching is sitting, standing, or laying down. All players have to do after downloading the mod is approach a dog without any magic, weapons, or fists equipped and let the petting animation take over. Although the mod’s upload date of April 1 may have confused those eager to try it, Jayserpa reassures players “I realize this might seem like a joke mod given the date, but I assure you it is NOT. After 10 years, we've seen all sorts of ehem, interesting mods but there is one key aspect that was always missing, so I made it happen.” The mod now has over 3,000 downloads and 20,000 views.
