Bandai Namco has finally dropped a release date for action RPG Scarlet Nexus, arriving on Steam June 24th, 2021. First announced a while back, Scarlet Nexus didn't have that much detail around it until recently, and it's actually looking pretty intriguing. Players will experience the story from one of two perspectives, psychics Yuito or Kasane, who are fighting terrifying psychic monsters known as Others who "descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains." The design of the monsters is weird and compelling, as the Others' forms are amalgamations of different objects and human parts. One's got a valve wheel for a face and a tree head. Another's got a big arm made out of smaller arms. The combo-driven combat is about psychokinetic powers: Lifting, breaking, and throwing pieces of the environment around to crush monsters. There are also companion characters with a variety of powers, like Kyoka who has the ability to make duplicates of herself. Scarlet Nexus will also have … [Read more...] about It’s psychics versus monsters in action RPG Scarlet Nexus, coming in June

This game about airports made me weirdly emotional
I'm the guy who turns up for flights with hours to spare. Not because I'm scared I'll miss the plane, but because I love hanging out in airports. It's like taking a break from life. An abstract space stretched between two realities. Nothing to do but eat, drink, relax, buy shit you don't need, watch the world go by, and maybe catch up on some podcasts. So when I heard about Interminal, a game about wandering aimlessly around an airport, I had to play it. Interminal was developed by Ivan Notaroš and Ferran Bertomeu for PROCJAM, "a laid back and relaxed jam about making things that make things." In it you explore an endless airport terminal filled with procedurally generated duty free stands. The randomised brands—with names like Practicaralle, Fousol, Fasciosphere, and Natumisme—are absurd, but could easily be real high-end perfumes. And they never end. This forever terminal is infinite, and the neatly arranged stands of dainty toiletries with silly names never stop coming. One … [Read more...] about This game about airports made me weirdly emotional
Forget the Snyder Cut: I want the Kojima Cut of Metal Gear Solid 5
The resurrection of Zack Snyder's Justice League is one of the most incredible things I've ever witnessed in nerd culture. Right now, fans are watching a four-hour superhero movie mostly because they really wanted it. If the same thing could happen in games, there's no doubt in my mind what game would get the Snyder Cut treatment: Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain . It's half a decade old now, and Hideo Kojima has moved on from Konami to make games in his own studio, but The Phantom Pain's infamous Episode 51 is still a bitter memory for Metal Gear fans. If I could will a version of a game into existence through the power of Twitter and a dopey hashtag, it would be this one. The Snyder Cut movement came after fans learned that vast swathes of the movie went unused when director Zack Snyder left the project after a family tragedy and Joss Whedon took over. Whedon made a ton of changes before the theatrical release, and Snyder hinted that there was a very different version … [Read more...] about Forget the Snyder Cut: I want the Kojima Cut of Metal Gear Solid 5
Life Is Strange: True Colors Coming September 10, Focuses On The Power Of Emotions
Publisher Square Enix has revealed Life Is Strange: True Colors , the next game in its supernatural-focused, choice-driven series, will launch on September 10 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC, and Stadia. The game is being developed by Deck Nine. If patterns are anything to go by, True Colors is likely not a new mainline entry for Life Is Strange. It's probably more like Before The Storm , also developed by Deck Nine and released in between Dontnod Entertainment's Life Is Strange and Life Is Strange 2 . Game director Zak Garriss said that True Colors began development in 2017, so Deck Nine has been working on it since the release of Before The Storm. "At its heart, this is a game about empathy--about how we connect to each other," Garriss said. "The story is driven by a complex mystery, with supernatural elements all brought to life by an incredible cast." True Colors sees you play as Alex Chen, who travels to the quiet town of Haven Springs (not to be confused … [Read more...] about Life Is Strange: True Colors Coming September 10, Focuses On The Power Of Emotions
Marvel switches up artists on Iron Man #8
Star Wars artist Angel Unzueta is taking over drawing duties on Marvel Comics' Iron Man #8 . Unzeata is replacing Juann Cabal, who was solicited as a guest artist after the first seven issues were drawn by Cafu. "Tony Stark has vanished in the middle of outer space, and his friends are moments away from death at Korvac's hands. It's up to a shell-shocked Hellcat to dig deep into her mind with the help of old friend and psychic mentor Moondragon, who reaches across the universe to help Patsy reclaim the once-powerful mental abilities she left behind," reads Marvel's synopsis of Iron Man #8. "But to reignite those powers, Hellcat is going to have to face some pretty frightening demons in her past… one of them literally the Son of Satan himself." The publisher has not given a reason for this change, and Cabal has no other announced books for April or May of this year. Cabal recently finished up his run on Guardians of the Galaxy, with his final issue going on sale March 24. … [Read more...] about Marvel switches up artists on Iron Man #8
