AMAZON customers have been complaining that their Echo devices stopped working today. Reports about the Alexa virtual assistant began appearing at around 8am UK time on Wednesday morning, and didn't stop until around 3pm. Outage tracker Down Detector logged hundreds of reports about issues with the digital assistant. Alexa, a voice-controlled artificial intelligence, can tell users about the news, weather, and even order a pizza. She's available on a range of Amazon devices, including the Echo speakers, Fire TV, and Amazon's range of Fire tablets too. But on Wednesday morning, users took to Twitter to reveal their frustration about the service. One user wrote: "My flat is broken! I've lost all my remotes and nothing works! #AlexaDown." Another moaned: "That feeling when Alexa is down and I have to rely on apps and websites again for my news." SNAPCHAT stopped working for hundreds of users on Tuesday morning – but now appears to be fixed. Frustrated Snappers complained that the app wouldn't let them send snaps, receive snaps, or refresh content. Website outage tracker Down Detector clocked as many as 700 reports about the app in just a few minutes. And the live outage map revealed that users across the world were experiencing problems – including the UK, and most of Europe. Users took to Twitter to complain, with one writing: "Is my Snapchat the only one not working?!" Another said: "Anyone else's Snapchat not working?" The outage began just before 8am UK time. It seems reports generally subsided around 15 minutes later, suggesting that the problem had been resolved. WHATSAPP has quietly announced that its app will soon stop working on a bunch of iPhones and Android phones. The Facebook-owned messaging service currently boasts 1.5billion users worldwide, but it will cut off millions from its platform in the next two years. WhatsApp sneakily revealed the purge in an update to an old blog post titled "support for older operating systems". In it, the company says it will nix support for the following systems on February 1, 2020: iOS 7 and older Android Gingerbread versions 2.3.7 and older. Users of those operating systems can no longer create new WhastApp accounts, but will be able to use the app until the deadline. What's more, the app could stop functioning at any time, so maybe it's time to buy a new phone. UPDATE 8TH MARCH 1.30PM GMT: By way of an apology, Oculus is giving $15 credit at the Oculus Store to anyone affected by the outage. "We're very sorry for the disruption today," Oculus said in an emailed statement to Rift customers. "We're providing a $15 Oculus Store credit (or currency equivalent) to people impacted by this issue. If you used Rift on or after February 1st, 2018 this credit will be added to your account automatically within the next seven days." The email sent to one of us by Oculus.
