Intel Rocket Lake is coming into orbit and will touch down at the end of the month, bringing with it improved performance and support for PCI Express 4.0. Epic Games has released Fortnite update 15.50, and while it didn't accompany that with proper patch notes, we do know about some of the key additions and fixes. The update removes the Hand Cannon but replaces it with another weapon: the Rapid-Fire SMG. There are also a variety of bug fixes in the new patch, as well as various undocumented additions that are not yet live in the game but appear to be setting the stage for the conclusion of Season 5 and the start of Season 6. While the return of the Rapid-Fire SMG is the only new feature touted by Epic, other Fortnite content invariably leaks through datamining whenever a new update is released. In a just world, the direction Brian Reynolds and MicroProse took the 4X formula would have set a new standard for storytelling in strategy games, but it proved to be more of an anomaly. I've conquered countless planets since, but nothing has been able to take my mind off the weird Civilization follow-up that appeared way back in the final days of the 20th century. Most 4Xs try to manage their vast scale through abstraction, boiling war, politics and social issues down to maths. You never really see or hear from your people in Civilization, and though you're technically playing with and against historical rulers, none of them have much humanity.
