Sony files patent to help you use bananas as PS5 controllers

A new PlayStation patent appears to detail a literal banana as a PS5 controller. As first noted by GamesIndustry.biz , Sony has recently filed a patent for a new controller device. What's weird about this controller is that it looks exactly like a banana, as you can see in the image from the original patent filing just below. "It would be desirable if a user could use an inexpensive, simple and non-electronic device as a video game peripheral," the description with the original patent filing reads. "The present disclosure seeks to address or at least alleviate some of the above-identified problems." Furthermore, Sony's solution to this problem is a "non-luminous passive object being held by a user," and could be an item like a pen, orange, pencil, or even a banana. The patent filing by Sony is pretty loose, and only references an item like a banana as something that could theoretically be used as a simple controller. Right now, there isn't too much evidence to suggest … [Read more...] about Sony files patent to help you use bananas as PS5 controllers

Microsoft is aware of unresponsiveness issues on new Xbox controllers, fix in the works

Some people are having issues with the newest version of the Xbox Wireless Controller that launched alongside the Xbox Series X/S, whereby button taps sometimes go unregistered, even on PC. The good news is, Microsoft has acknowledged the problem, and is working on a fix of some sort. Now for the bad news—it's an annoying issue, and there is no time frame for the fix, or what it will entail. So if you're experiencing the same problem, the only thing you can do (short of returning the controller) is to sit back and hope it gets resolved sooner rather than later. Controller design is tricky business these days. They have become infinitely more complicated in design and functionality than the Atari 2600 joystick I played on a million years ago, which simply consisted of a stick and a single button. Prehistoric by today's standards, but it was good enough to navigate Pitfall Harry across crocodile-infested swamps. Multiple buttons, D-pads, analog joysticks, triggers, motorized … [Read more...] about Microsoft is aware of unresponsiveness issues on new Xbox controllers, fix in the works

Xbox Series X controller issues are being worked on by Microsoft

Microsoft is well aware of the Xbox Series X controller issues and is working to rectify unresponsiveness, reports PCGamer . As more and more players get their hands on the new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S controllers, more and more problems have been reported regarding unregistered button taps - even when players are using the new controllers on a PC. The Gamesradar team has run into issues playing Call of Duty: Warzone where it feels the controller's 'A' button doesn't always work correctly. A player known as SK Lee told The Loadout that their "Y" button consistently doesn't work, which severely affects their ability to play FIFA on PC. While an unresponsive controller is certainly one of the more frustrating things to encounter while gaming, at least Microsoft is looking into a fix. "We are aware some players may be experiencing unresponsiveness with their new Xbox Wireless Controllers and our teams are actively working on a solution. For the best … [Read more...] about Xbox Series X controller issues are being worked on by Microsoft
