Best Shots review – Future State: House of El #1 reframes the Superman legacy as a Game of Thrones-esque slice of cosmic fantasy
Kryptonian civil war rages amongst the descendants of Superman in Future State: Superman: House of El #1 , a double-sized one-shot that pitches the legacy of Superman as a Game of Thrones-esque slice of cosmic fantasy. Future State: Superman - House of El #1 credits Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson Phillip Kennedy Johnson eschews quiet character in favor of cinematic siege warfare, drawn ably by artist Scott Godlewski. Ronan Kent holds the title of Superman here, backed up by a team that fills out the usual fantasy archetypes with a decidedly Kryptonian spin. Godlewski has fun with the visuals here. Newsarama: Brian, to jump right in, what was the decision behind wrapping up Superman to write Justice League? Brian Michael Bendis: I was only supposed to do 25 issues of the Superman books, each one, that was the original run. Harley Quinn has put her past (i.e. the Joker) firmly behind her as witnessed in 'The Joker War,' but at the same time she ended up shot in the head with his replacement for her, Punchline . In this 'Infinite Frontier' era series, Harley Quinn plants her roots in Gotham in an attempt to the wrongs of her past - and she has help with a new partner (but not partner-in-crime), Kevin. Phillips spoke with Newsarama about what's in store next month with Harley Quinn #1, but also in the unofficial prequel about her and Poison Ivy in the March 16 anthology Batman: Urban Legends #1 . So we talk about on-again-off-again romances, the effects of 'The Joker War,' and how this new best bud Kevin fits into everything.
