Home • PC Game Hardware • PC Game News • 2 Katharine Castle Hardware Editor 9th June 2019 / 11:47PM We already know Sony’s PlayStation 5 will support real-time ray tracing courtesy of its new custom AMD Navi GPU, and now Microsoft’s next-gen Project Scarlett console has hitched itself to the ray tracing bandwagon as well thanks to, yep, you guessed it, another custom AMD Navi GPU. Confirmed this evening by Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer during Microsoft’s E3 press conference, Project Scarlett will deliver hardware-accelerated ray tracing to your living room sometime next year in the Holiday 2020 season – so why the heck shouldn’t AMD’s desktop Navi cards follow suit, eh? I’m referring, of course, to the current rumour mills that proclaim AMD’s next-gen Navi graphics cards won’t support this year’s hottest new lighting tech. It seems bonkers to me that AMD would ensure ray tracing support on … [Read more...] about Another AMD Navi GPU sits at the heart of Microsoft’s Project Scarlett console, with real-time ray tracing a go-go

Unveiled at AMD’s E3 2019 Next Horizon Gaming event and launching on July 7, the first two Navi graphics cards going on sale will be the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT, which are AMD’s answers to Nvidia’s RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 cards respectively. Based on AMD’s all-new 7nm (nanometer) architecture known as RDNA (or Radeon DNA), these two Navi GPUs might just be the thing to put AMD back in the best graphics card game. Here’s everything we know so far about their price, specs and performance. AMD Navi: what is it? Navi is the name of AMD’s new family of Radeon RX 5000 graphics cards. Set to replace AMD’s current Radeon RX Vega cards (but not the Radeon 7, which will continue to co-exist with the new Navi GPUs, according to AMD’s most recent roadmap), Navi … [Read more...] about AMD Navi: Everything we know about the RX 5700 XT and RX 5700
Everything you need to know about Nvidia’s RTX Super graphics cards
Home • PC Game Hardware • PC Game News • 2 Katharine Castle Hardware Editor 2nd July 2019 / 2:00PM Talk about a royal gazumping. After months and months of hype and build-up toward the release of AMD’s new Navi GPUs, Nvidia have just casually announced three new RTX graphics cards in the form of the RTX 2060 Super, the RTX 2070 Super, and the RTX 2080 Super. And two of them are launching next Tuesday on July 9th. That’s just two days after AMD’s Navi launch, and as you’ll be able to see from my reviews of the Nvidia RTX 2060 Super and Nvidia RTX 2070 Super, AMD could be a tiny spot of bother. Thank the creepy fridge gods, Control’s PC requirements are now much lighter
Home • PC Game Hardware • PC Game News • Control • 18 Katharine Castle Hardware Editor 12th August 2019 / 5:25PM Good news for anyone hoping to play Remedy’s upcoming telekinetic shooter Control in just a couple of weeks time, as the game’s official PC requirements are now a lot lighter than they were a month ago – and yes, I’m aware this is fairly old news by now, but honestly, I’ve been stuck in a locked room staring at the Bureau’s supernatural refrigerator for the past two weeks and I’ve only just been relieved of said fridge watching duty. Here they are in full: Unveiled over on Control’s website at the beginning of August, your PC should now stand a much better chance of running Control than it did before – especially now you only need either an Nvidia GTX 1060, GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 580 sitting inside your PC instead of a GTX 1080 Ti or Radeon 7. In fact, as the eagle-eyed … [Read more...] about Thank the creepy fridge gods, Control’s PC requirements are now much lighter
AMD’s RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT Navi GPUs bring the fight to Nvidia’s RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 on July 7

Unveiled at their Next Horizon Gaming event at E3 this evening, the RX 5700 is AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s RTX 2060, while the RX 5700 XT is their RTX 2070 competitor, and if AMD’s performance stats are to be believed, the race for best graphics card just got a heck of a lot more interesting. Let’s start with the RX 5700 XT. Priced at $449, which is about $50 less than the cheapest RTX 2070 cards around at time of writing, this 7nm Navi GPU will have 8GB of GDDR6 memory to its name, 40 compute units, as well as a base clock speed of 1605MHz and a boost clock speed of 1905MHz. On stage, AMD top lady Dr Lisa Su gave us our first glimpse of what the XT will look like, too. Built with a redesigned aluminium alloy thermal … [Read more...] about AMD’s RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT Navi GPUs bring the fight to Nvidia’s RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 on July 7
