There’s a lot to like about Marvel Strike Force, and that’s part of what makes the game’s recent decisions so infuriating, and the justified community reaction so lamentable. This all could have been avoided, if the developers had made different decisions. There are the bones of a very fun role-playing mobile game in Strike Force: You recruit heroes, weigh their strengths and synergy, and then build teams to face off against a variety of challenges. That’s a solid formula, but everything built around it is what you might expect from the worst-case business practices of a mobile game — and even that has recently been taken to extremes. The game’s most recent update, a time-limited campaign based around Nick Fury and the Kree, has angered the community so badly that two of the game’s biggest YouTubers quit and posted videos calling out publisher FoxNext for its development decisions. Strike Force has spun so wildly out of control in a scenario … [Read more...] about Marvel Strike Force’s microtransactions go beyond the mobile standard
Go beyond expectations
Fantasy Flight Games have a long history with tabletop gaming in the Star Wars IP. They already have every other type of tabletop gaming covered with card games; dice games; role-playing games; X-Wing; which allows you to re-enact the space skirmish warfare that Star Wars is famous for; Armada, which took those space battles to a bigger scale and allowed you to play out entire fleet battles; and Imperial Assault, which combined a board game with roleplaying game elements and allowed to you fight small skirmish missions on the tabletop. With Star Wars Legion, Fantasy Flight Games are moving Star Wars fully into the wargaming hobby genre. There are several different groups of people that are going to be interested in this product, each for their own reasons, but we’re going to look at this product in three areas: The hobby side (the models themselves) As a stand-alone core box product (for those who want to dip in but not commit long term) The wargaming side (how the product … [Read more...] about Star Wars Legion Core Set Review – Pick Dark or Light and Go to War!
By now, you’ve probably seen the Westworld season 2 trailer (if not, head right this way for the big Super Bowl trailers) but, this being Westworld, nothing is ever straightforward. In fact, an eagle-eyed fan has spotted an easy-to-miss code within the trailer which leads to – you guessed it – a hidden website. It’s not just any old marketing campaign, though. This one offers the biggest tease yet of what we can expect from season 2 and beyond. Over on Reddit, user Askin1 deciphered a code which you can briefly see at 0:31 in the trailer (which you can see below). It turns out, it’s a binary code that leads to DelosDestinations.com. For those unfamiliar with Delos, it’s the company that owns and runs Westworld. The shadowy corporation hasn’t played its hand in the show as of yet, but their fingerprints are all over this one. The key takeaway from the website is the reveal of six parks. Samurai World is heading our way in season 2 and, lest we … [Read more...] about Hidden Westworld website teases new parks and what to expect from future seasons
Pokemon is giving its augmented reality another Go, pun intended. The latest data mining news is that Niantic is implementing story quest into Pokemon Go, probably in an attempt to bring players back to the game. Simph Road, Pokemon Go data mining community has just uncovered that the latest version of the game (version 0.91.1 for Android and 1.61.1 for iOS) seems to be including story quests that might be soon available on our mobile devices too. They say: We’re looking at the beginnings of an in-game quest system that appears to encapsulate all of the mechanics available in Pokemon GO, even incorporates characters who grant them, and pre-conditions that suggest increasing levels of difficulty and progress. We’re beyond excited to see these mechanics add depth to gameplay for all our travelers – but especially the higher-level folks who’ve largely accomplished many of their goals on the Road so far. Remember, these mechanics are not … [Read more...] about Pokemon Go Might Soon Get Story Quests According To Dataminers
Pokemon GO has stayed strong in giving players the chance to go out and become a Pokemon Master, and while the app has been accessible for quite some time on a number of smart devices, the end is nigh for a few older generation devices, starting with Apple products. In an update from developer Niantic, the company announced that support for older Apple devices for Pokemon GO will be phased out at the end of February 2018. Specifically, this will be applied to iOS devices that are incapable of upgrading to iOS 11 (the latest major OS update for the platform), with Niantic explicitly mentioning devices such as the iPhone 5 and 5c models. Niantic explained that this change “is a result of improvements to Pokemon GO that push the application beyond the capabilities of the operating systems on such devices,” and those with a device that will be incompatible with the game after February 28th, 2018 will need to either upgrade or switch to a different, more recent smart … [Read more...] about Pokemon GO Ending Support for Older Apple Smart Devices
