MICROSOFT has stopped the rollout of the latest Windows 10 update, after multiple reports that it was deleting users' files. The tech company will freeze the update until it has resolved the problem, and is currently advising people to "minimise" their use of affected computers and to contact Microsoft customer support directly. Microsoft released the update - version 1809 - last week, all with the promise of "empowering a new era of personal productivity". But despite enabling greater connectivity between users' various devices, some customers have complained that the update has deleted all the files in their Documents and Pictures folders. Microsoft is describing such reports as "isolated," and assure customers that they will provide an update on the situation once they continue rolling out version 1809. "Microsoft has paused the rollout of the update while we continue to investigate reports from some customers," a spokesperson for Microsoft told the Sun. Microsoft is also advising … [Read more...] about Microsoft kills Windows 10 update that ‘deleted’ users’ files – did you download THIS version?

FACEBOOK has more than doubled the amount of time it takes to delete your account. It means that you'll now have to wait an entire month before Facebook actually starts scrubbing your info from the site. The move comes just days after Facebook revealed a staggering cybersecurity blunder gave hackers access to at least 50million accounts. This hack let attackers view profiles, photos, videos, installed apps, birthdays, and even private messages. Potentially fearing a mass exodus from Facebook, the company has now extended the "grace period" for cancelling an account deletion from 14 days to 30 days. For context, Facebook offers two different types of account deletion – account deactivation and permanent account deletion. Deactivation is a sort of "soft" delete, and can be undone whenever you like. It's for people who want to take a break from the site, hiding all of your info – and restoring it whenever you log back in. But account deletion permanently removes all of your … [Read more...] about Facebook DOUBLES the time it takes to delete your account to a whole month – after hack pushes users to quit app
Another Facebook app went down earlier today, just hours after the company's main social network went dark for Android users. The latest casualty was Messenger, Facebook's messaging platform, home to 1.3billion users – and it seems the crash even wiped out some users' conversation history. "#Facebook #Messenger just ate everything. All of my conversations are gone. The @messenger app glitched and now this is all I see," tweeted @stardustfemme with a screenshot that showed a blank Messenger home screen devoid of chats and contacts. Down Detector, a website that tracks global outages, showed over 122 reports of problems with Facebook Messenger earlier this morning. It seems the disruption started at 7.45am UK time and carried on until 10am, after which reports of problems died down. Major outage hotspots were in the UK and Europe, according to Down Detector. "Can't see any of my chats and keeps saying something went wrong" commented one user. "Messenger wouldn't respond … [Read more...] about Facebook Messenger down? FROM 50 million to 2.2 billion in a matter of weeks, Facebook has finally revealed the true extent of shady data gathering on its platform - and it affects all users. The embattled social network is blaming the sorry mess on its search feature, which lets you look up others by phone number or email address. As it's been doing since the start of its data crisis, the company claims some shady folk took advantage of Facebook search to hoover up your public profile data, and (as usual) there was nothing it could do about it. The excuses began with Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer, who detailed the abuses of the feature and what Facebook is doing to restrict the user info app makers can access. "Malicious actors have also abused these features to scrape public profile information by submitting phone numbers or email addresses they already have through search and account recovery," he said. "Given the scale and sophistication of the activity we’ve seen, we believe most people on Facebook … [Read more...] about Facebook admits ‘most’ of its 2BILLION users had their personal info taken
