A new Star Trek movie is in the works, with screenwriter Kalinda Vazquez on board to pen the script, Deadline reports. JJ Abrams, who directed two of the most recent trilogy of Star Trek movies, will produce. It's been an exciting few weeks for Vazquez – in February, it was announced that she'd teamed up with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin to adapt Roger Zelazny's sci-fi novel Roadmarks into a series for HBO. She's also written on Star Trek: Discovery and was a co-executive producer on Fear the Walking Dead. Her other TV credits include Marvel's Runaways, Once Upon A Time, and Prison Break. The last big-screen outing for the Star Trek crew was in 2016, with Star Trek Beyond . The UK government has announced that the Competition and Markets Authority will respond to complaints that the App Store (which controls what apps can be downloaded on Apple devices and takes a 30% cut of all payments) may break competition law by launching an investigation into "anti-competitive behaviour." This is perhaps most notable in the larger context of various European Commission probes into the company, and the larger campaign against the App Store by Fortnite maker Epic Games. "The CMA’s investigation will consider whether Apple has a dominant position in connection with the distribution of apps on Apple devices in the UK—and, if so, whether Apple imposes unfair or anti-competitive terms on developers using the App Store, ultimately resulting in users having less choice or paying higher prices for apps and add-ons." Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice might technically be a hit movie , but it was a critical failure and now looks unlikely to cross the expected $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. One criticism that Warner has faced is that, unlike rivals Marvel, it doesn't have anyone overseeing its ongoing cinematic universe. This is now changing, with the creation of a new DC movie division and the appointment of two executives to run it. According the The Hollywood Reporter , the newly-formed DC Films will focus entirely on the films in the superhero universe. Jon Berg and Geoff Johns will oversee the production and creative direction, much as Kevin Feige does at Marvel. Today at a presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed what had been expected: that it is working on a new, standalone Batman movie with Ben Affleck. Speaking about the film company's upcoming lineup, the executive finally made it official. "We're working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman movie," Tsujihara said, as reported by Comicbook.com . Today's confirmation follows comments from a talent agency executive , who said in March that Affleck is signed up to play the Caped Crusader in the two upcoming Justice League movies and has ideas for another film beyond that. "He's contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two , so at least three times wearing the cape," WME co-CEO Patrick Whitesell said, going on to say, "There's a script that he's written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that's out there as an option." Not only has the director caused a huge stir online by re-doing Justice League , but he also has a new Netflix movie on the horizon: Army of the Dead, about a group of mercenaries who try to rob a Las Vegas casino during a zombie outbreak. Speaking to Total Film in the new issue of the magazine, Snyder describes his latest gargantuan action blockbuster – which you can see an exclusive image from above – "my small movie". The filmmaker does not mean in scale, though, but in sensibility. "I’ve tried to get at it in a super- intimate, personal way.
