Bandai Namco has finally dropped a release date for action RPG Scarlet Nexus, arriving on Steam June 24th, 2021. First announced a while back, Scarlet Nexus didn't have that much detail around it until recently, and it's actually looking pretty intriguing. Players will experience the story from one of two perspectives, psychics Yuito or Kasane, who are fighting terrifying psychic monsters known as Others who "descend from the sky with a hunger for human brains." The design of the monsters is weird and compelling, as the Others' forms are amalgamations of different objects and human parts. One's got a valve wheel for a face and a tree head. Another's got a big arm made out of smaller arms. The combo-driven combat is about psychokinetic powers: Lifting, breaking, and throwing pieces of the environment around to crush monsters. Polish horror developer Bloober Team has backed out of acquisition talks with several potential buyers, according to a new report by local outlet Bankier.pl (via VGC ). Bloober, the developer of games like The Medium, Blair Witch and Observer, had reportedly been in talks with over a dozen companies from across the globe. But in a press release sent to Bankier, the studio now claims that it has walked away from talks, feeling any acquisition put it at risk of "losing its overriding strategic objectives." "At this stage it would be incompatible with the culture of the organisation, and would significantly limit the potential growth of the company’s value in the coming years, especially taking into account the projects implemented and planned," the press release continued. I started collecting an army of Blood Angels in 1993, so if you take one look at Battlesector and tell me there are too many Warhammer 40,000 videogames about space marines already, I will not care. Because these aren't any old space marines: these are the warrior-philosophers cursed with a red thirst that drives them to frenzies and death, and they are my special little guys. In the last few years modern Games Workshop's profligacy with its license has given us games where you get to be orks , tech-priests , and Necromunda gangs , so we're due for another turn-based tactics game about shoulderpad fetishists. And it seems to be a competent one. I'm the guy who turns up for flights with hours to spare. Not because I'm scared I'll miss the plane, but because I love hanging out in airports. It's like taking a break from life. An abstract space stretched between two realities. Nothing to do but eat, drink, relax, buy shit you don't need, watch the world go by, and maybe catch up on some podcasts. So when I heard about Interminal, a game about wandering aimlessly around an airport, I had to play it. Interminal was developed by Ivan Notaroš and Ferran Bertomeu for PROCJAM, "a laid back and relaxed jam about making things that make things." In it you explore an endless airport terminal filled with procedurally generated duty free stands. The randomised brands—with names like Practicaralle, Fousol, Fasciosphere, and Natumisme—are absurd, but could easily be real high-end perfumes. And they never end. The resurrection of Zack Snyder's Justice League is one of the most incredible things I've ever witnessed in nerd culture. Right now, fans are watching a four-hour superhero movie mostly because they really wanted it. If the same thing could happen in games, there's no doubt in my mind what game would get the Snyder Cut treatment: Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain . It's half a decade old now, and Hideo Kojima has moved on from Konami to make games in his own studio, but The Phantom Pain's infamous Episode 51 is still a bitter memory for Metal Gear fans. If I could will a version of a game into existence through the power of Twitter and a dopey hashtag, it would be this one.
