As part of a monthly feature, Valve has revealed the best-selling games on Steam from January this year. One trend that was very noticeable was that 12 of the top 20 games were Early Access titles, an unprecedented number for the digital distribution platform since it launched the feature eight years ago. “Just as exciting is the fact that the success of these products in January demonstrates just how comfortable and excited players are to experience games using Early Access,” Valve said in a statement. New development teams also landed in the top 20, as studios Live Wire, Nussygame, and others all released products on Steam for the first time. Valve didn't specify any exact revenue numbers or the exact ranking for how well the games did, but the top 20 saw Bloober Team's spooky detective game The Medium , three remastered Yakuza games from Sega, and the grim reimagining of Arthurian legend in King Arthur: Knight's Tale enter the list. While Bravely Second: End Layer continued the story of the original game, Bravely Default 2 is now hoping to continue the story of the franchise some six years later. The third (and slightly confusingly named) installment of the series will launch on Nintendo Switch this Friday, February 26, and producer Masashi Takahashi hopes to see it establish Bravely as a full-fat series home to independent but thematically connected stories and games. He and character designer Naoki Ikushima have also worked to marry the best parts of Bravely with lessons learned from Octopath Traveler, the last Switch JRPG that the two worked on, and player feedback has shaped that process at nearly every level. Starting March 1 , PlayStation users will be able to download one of the PS4's best exclusives free of charge. Ratchet & Clank will be free as part of PlayStation's Play at Home initiative , a program that Sony debuted last year as a way of giving back during the COVID-19 pandemic. Once you claim Ratchet & Clank, it'll be in your library forever. The giveaway runs until the end of March, but more freebies will be available in the coming months. A reimagining of the first game in the action-platformer series, Ratchet & Clank landed on PS4 in 2016 with significantly overhauled visuals and quality-of-life gameplay improvements. Actor Jeffrey Pierce, who played Tommy in The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II, has revealed his top pick for who should play the character in HBO's upcoming adaptation. He said on Twitter ( via GamesRadar ) that he would like to see Gael Garcia Bernal play Tommy, who is Joel's younger brother. Pierce also said he would be interested to see HBO cast a woman to play Tommy. Bernal played a major recurring role on Amazon's Mozart in the Jungle, while he also appeared in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's 2006 movie Babel. Additionally, Bernal is known for voicing Hector in the Pixar movie Coco.
