There’s no doubt that Fortnite is one of the world’s most popular games, but thanks to Epic we can now put some numbers behind that statement. On Thursday, the developer announced that the game had 78.3 million players in August. So, how big does that make Fortnite exactly? It’s hard to say — the developers behind games with player bases that large rarely even bother letting us know how many people are playing. But we do have a few examples of numbers from some of the most popular games in the world to draw from. As of December, Minecraft — which remains the biggest game on YouTube — had 74 million players a month. Meanwhile, League of Legends, as of 2016, had just over 100 million active players a month. It’s also worth noting that Fortnite has yet to be released in China, one of the largest markets for online games and battle royale in-particular. One of the keys to Fortnite’s success has been its massive online streaming community, … [Read more...] about Fortnite has 78.3 million monthly players, according to Epic
Epic Games has announced what fans can expect from this year’s second competitive Fortnite tournament season, the Fall Skirmish. Perhaps the biggest change from the Summer Skirmish, which finished a few weeks ago at PAX West, is the addition of Clubs. For the Fall Skirmish, Epic has created five clubs — Fort Knights, Lucky Llamas, Dusty Dogs, Rift Raiders and Bush Bandits. Players will team with their clubs when squad or duos game modes are played. Each player’s performance contributes to their club’s standings under a system called Club Points. At the end of the Fall Skirmish the club with the most points wins $4 million. The tournament will be divided into six weeks of competitions — which Epic had previously announced — and will span a variety of different game types and … [Read more...] about Epic has announced the details of Fortnite’s Fall Skirmish
September 20, 2018 Fortnite developer Epic Games has updated us on the battle royale’s total player count. If you thought – or hoped – Fortnite was slowing down, think again. It remains one of the biggest games in the world, and the latest numbers from Epic suggest it’s going to keep it up for the foreseeable future. Fortnite had 78.3 million players in the month of August alone, as Geoff Keighley relays on Twitter. Total downloads of the game have officially topped 125 million since the battle royale’s release in 2017, with previous reports of 40 million logging in to play every single month. The new jump in players is likely coming in part thanks to Fortnite’s release on Android. The iOS competitor was one of the last modern systems to get access to the game, after releases across all major consoles, as well as on PC and Apple devices. Epic’s release of the game on Android garnered some controversy, but fortunately for them, it … [Read more...] about Fortnite player numbers reached nearly 80 million in August alone
