The video, published Tuesday morning to the Los Angeles Police Department’s YouTube channel, shows a brief exchange of gunfire between Honeycutt, 27, and an officer in tactical gear. The officer was peeking from behind a wall when a single shot was fired from a window. The officer immediately fired a round back in the direction of the window. At around 5:05 p.m. on July 6, police were called to the home in the 4700 block of Tyrone Avenue, apparently by Honeycutt’s mother. In the video, a woman identifying herself as his mother says her son told her there were three bullets in the gun. She said Honeycutt also had an unloaded shotgun. She tells officers that her son had recently struggled with mental health and drugs after returning home from playing professional basketball overseas.
